Sealer Selection Guide

    Allied Concrete Sealers Regina

    Wallace Construction Specialties Ltd. currently markets six types of sealers suitable for use on concrete flatwork such as warehouse floors, driveways, garage pads, sidewalks, and patios. These products are: 

    • Allied AC 309A VOC,
    • Allied AC 309A-HS VOC
    • Allied AC 425 VOC
    • Allied AC 30 VOC.

     


     

    Allied AC 309A VOC

    A clear modified solvent base acrylic which forms a membrane to reduce intrusion of water, salts and motor oil. This product is effective if properly applied but is affected by U.V. and wear and should be re-applied every year or so depending on the traffic. This product should not be used as a curing compound on Saskatchewan concrete which is subject to shale popping. Allow 28 days good curing and drying conditions before applying as a sealer. AC 309A VOC is used mainly on smooth troweled and broom finish surfaces.

     


     

    Allied AC 309A-HS VOC

    Same as AC 309A VOC but with a higher solids content and a higher gloss. This sealer is used mostly on exposed aggregate and stamped concrete surfaces. AC 309A-HS VOC should not be used on smooth steel-troweled surfaces. Stamped concrete should be primed first with AC 309A VOC.

     


     

    AC 425 VOC Premium Sealer

    Acrylate copolymer sealer with superior color enhancement and gloss properties. It will provide UV and wear resistance approximately twice as long as a standard acrylic sealer. Used mainly on exposed aggregate and stamped concrete surfaces. Stamped concrete should be primed first with AC 309A VOC.

    *** Sealers can create a slip hazard especially when wet.

    To improve slip resistance Allied Poly Microspheres can be added at a rate of up to .23kg (.5 lb) per pail. Mix thoroughly with a drill and paint mixer and then apply sealer with a paint roller. Plastic tipped mixers that fit through the pouring spout of the sealer pail are available from Wallace. (Test dark or decorative concrete first to insure that an objectionable blush does not occur).

     


     

    Allied AC 30 VOC Penetrating Sealer

    An alkoxy-siloxane which penetrates up to 5mm into the concrete depending on porosity and chemically bonds there by reacting with free silica in the concrete and the moisture either present in the substrate or in the atmosphere. This product is very effective against water and salt intrusion. AC 30 VOC is a penetrant and will not wear off, therefore can be considered permanent unless the concrete wears to the depth of penetration. AC 30 VOC will not prevent oil staining. Solvent based acrylic and acrylate copolymer sealers may be applied over AC 30 VOC to protect against staining by motor oil. AC 30 VOC is used mainly on broom finish and exposed aggregate surfaces. Not recommended for dense troweled concrete surfaces as penetration is minimal.

     

    NOTE: Sealers can be very effective in helping to overcome the natural limitations of concrete. However their use will not prevent or overcome the faults of a badly constructed slab due to poor placing, finishing practices, or improper mix design. Since we have no control over these variables WALLACE CONSTRUCTION SPECIALTIES LTD. cannot offer warranty on these products.
