Sealer Selection Guide

  • Description

Wallace Construction Specialties currently markets five Allied concrete sealers suitable for use on concrete flatwork such as driveways, garage pads, warehouse floors, sidewalks, and patios. These products are:

    • Allied AC 309A Low Gloss

    • Allied AC 309A HS High Gloss

    • Allied AC 415 Premium Low Gloss

    • Allied AC 430 Premium High Gloss

    • Allied AC 30 Penetrating Sealer

Allied AC 309A VOC Low Gloss

A solvent based acrylic liquid which forms a transparent, non-yellowing, quick drying membrane that reduces the intrusion of water, salts, and motor oil. AC309A creates a low gloss finish. This product is not to be used as a curing compound on Saskatchewan concrete which is subject to shale popping. Used mainly on smooth troweled and broom finishes.

Allied AC 309A HS VOC High Gloss

Same as AC 309A above but with higher solids content resulting in a higher gloss finish. This sealer is used mostly on exposed aggregate surfaces. Allied AC 309A HS should not be used on steel-troweled finishes. Stamped concrete should be primed first with Allied AC 309A VOC.

Allied AC 415 Premium Low Gloss

A premium solvent based, non-yellowing, acrylic sealer which reduces intrusion of water, salts, and motor oil. This product can only be used as a sealer – never as a curing compound. AC 415 creates a low gloss finish.

Allied AC 430 Premium High Gloss

Same as AC 415 above but with higher solids content resulting in a higher gloss finish.

Allied AC 30 VOC Penetrating Sealer

An alkoxy-siloxane sealer which penetrates up to 5 mm into the concrete depending on porosity. AC 30 reacts with free silica in the concrete and moisture forming insoluble, pore-blocking compounds. The product is very effective against water and salt intrusion. AC 30 is a penetrant and will not wear off. Therefore it is effective unless the concrete wears to the depth of the penetration. AC 30 will not prevent oil staining. Solvent based acrylic sealers may be applied over AC 30 to protect against staining by motor oil. AC 30 is used mainly on broom finished surfaces. Not recommended for dense troweled concrete surfaces as penetration is minimal.

NOTE: Sealers can enhance the performance of good concrete. However sealers cannot compensate for improper concrete mix designs or finishing practices. Since we have no control over these variables Wallace Construction Specialties Ltd. and Allied cannot offer any warranty on these products.
